Job Title: Application Developer -- Micro Strategy
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Duration: 6 months Contract to Hire
BASIC FUNCTION:
As a member of the BI Team the primary focus of this position would be to develop new product offerings using the MicroStrategy BI platform. Working as a member of an Agile team the BI Developer will be involved in all phases of a new product development. As the BI lead on the Agile team the BI Developer will need to intimately understand the product requirements and recommend the most optimal strategy to implement them, provide timing and sizing estimates for the effort, and implement the enhancements. Additionally, this BI Developer will also work closely with Product Management and Operations in the enhancement of existing products. The creation and maintenance of product documentation will also be an important function of the BI Developer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in requirements analysis and story boarding sessions in an Agile team
- Determine optimal design strategy to implement requirements
- Provide timing and sizing estimates to implement recommended design
- May present design and estimates to Architecture Review Board if needed
- Implement approved solution design
- Conduct performance tests on implemented solution
- Create performance guidance document for end users if needed
- Support enhancement of existing products on an as-needed basis
- Support adhoc reporting projects on an as-needed basis
- Develop and maintain product documentation
- Provide Level 2 product support if needed
OTHER DUTIES
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor Degree required, or equivalent. Preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems, Math or related area. Master's Degree preferred.
Experience: The candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the use of MicroStrategy with the recent 2 years being on version 9.1.2. Additionally, the candidate will have proven experience in the following areas :
Data modeling
o Strong knowledge of star schemas
o Optimization of data model for query performance
o Experience with complex data models involving more than 10 tables
MicroStrategy Architecture
o Design of schema objects such as attributes, hierarchies, and transformations
o Development and use of Drill Maps to enhance user experience
o Creation of complex metrics such as Conditional and Level metrics and their use within a report context
o Use of in-memory capabilities such as I-Cubes and Dynamic Sourcing to improve query performance
o Use of appropriate caching strategies to enhance report performance
Report Development
o Intimate knowledge of MicroStrategy's reporting capabilities and their applications
o Hands-on experience with the creation of complex reports with Drill Maps and complex metrics
o Solid experience in performance tuning of reports using VLDB settings
Dashboard design
o Intimate familiarity with the mechanics and architecture of dashboard design
o Hands-on experience with the use of advanced visualization such as Widgets and mapping
o Strong fundamentals in basic graphic design concepts to create aesthetically pleasing interfaces
Mobile Application Development
o Experience in creating at least one mobile application
Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications:
1. Experience working with other BI tools will be a strong plus
2. Good understanding of general BI concepts and data warehousing will be a strong plus
3. Strong knowledge of the MicroStrategy platform version 9; knowledge of version 11 is a bonus
4. Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills
6. Ability to work within an agile development environment
7. Creative and innovative in the use of technology to meet business functionality
8. Excellent analysis and documentation skills
9. Ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
10. Flexibility with occasional after-hours tasks and consultation
