I do not believe that you have done much research on what it costs to run a business. Most galleries are going out of business, because they cannot pay their bills, and you believe that a gallery can put your art on the wall free of charge, not charge a commission, and pay their bills. You must be living in the land of OZ. Lets just look at a typical gallery cost. I will not bore you with the $$, but here is an example. How do they pay rent (sometimes 2K to 4K or more per month), internet , web services, advertising, flyers ( have you printed flyers lately - easy $200 just for a small batch) phone, parking, electric, taxes, permits, POS processing, bank fees, employees, auto, computer, chairs, pedestals, and I could go on for a while. Lets say you put $25K in to start and it takes, $8K to run the business each month and another 5K in salaries. THATS COMES FROM PROFIT...Not sales, it is what is left after you pay the artists... So if you get 45% from artists, and you need to pay $13K in bills, your sales must be above 25K per month, and then you still do not have personal income. So, lets push that to 35K, after taxes, you might bring home 20K per year, but what about putting inventory in, upgrading your POS, or fixing the toliet, so that comes out of your personal income. DUH! SO WHERE DO THEY GET THE MONEY TO PAY THE BILLS. QUIT CRYING AND GROW UP. IF IT IS SO EASY< GO OPEN YOUR OWN GALLERY!!!!!!!!!!! FORGOT THE food and wine that can run $500 plus for one event.... IDIOT LOGIC ...maybe you should move to OZ or Washington DC, I hear everyone has their hand out there, so you would fit right in.......
