Senior Programmer / Report Writer

The Senior Programmer/Report Writer works in the Information Resources Management (IRM) department as part of the analysis and reporting services team. The Senior Programmer/Report Writer participates in all phases of the report development effort, including ad hoc queries as well as the development of complex database objects such as stored procedures, functions and packages to support the reporting environment. This position also contributes to the design, development and maintenance of custom reporting and data warehouse tables. The Senior Programmer/Report Writer collaborates with other IRM teams requiring cross-functional expertise and with external departments to provide knowledge and expertise on technology projects. This position functions as part of a team, serving as a knowledge resource and mentoring, as well as being mentored by, other team members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Engage with customers and management to identify reporting needs and determine requirements
• Create technical specifications for both ad hoc and standard report development projects
• Develop, optimize and maintain SQL scripts, procedures, and views which drive front-end reporting
• Develop parameter-driven standard reports
• Create queries to satisfy ad hoc custom output requests
• Perform unit testing, document testing outcomes and resolve problems/errors
• Document and report data quality and/or data integrity issues
• Follow programming, testing and report development process standards; participate in peer development review
• Manage multiple projects and assignments concurrently and meet established deadlines
• Perform other related duties as required

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Demonstrated experience developing SQL queries and procedures using PL/SQL, T-SQL, or similar ANSI SQL based query language
• Experience with relational databases and complex data structures
• Experience producing reports and data extracts; experience with end user data manipulation tools
• Experience with report creation tools
• Ability to establish and maintain procedures, processes and policies
• Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving skills; must be able to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical individuals
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Ability to focus on details to produce a reliable product

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field AND three years of programming experience OR five years of programming experience. Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have achieved.
