Martha got a call yesterday afternoon from a woman that said she noticed Ollie’s flyer at Ranch Market (thankfully, Mart was our willing Spanish speaking contact). She said that Ollie looked a lot like the dog she saw this past weekend at her family reunion and that her cousin’s husband had found him 3 weeks ago running along Thomas Road. She told Martha that she would check again after she got off of work and call her. We waited for the rest of the day on pins and needles and FINALLY at 10pm she called.
We met her at a nice house on 39th Avenue and Bethany Home Rd and Martha & I walked up to a darkened door where the man stood with his two sons and a small dog. Ollie isn’t very good at seeing in the dark and he growled at first… I bent down into the dim light that was coming from inside the house and said “Ollie..Is that you?”. His ears perked up and his tail began to wag when he realized who I was, and he lept from the doorway into my arms. He has been well taken care of and even taught a couple new tricks over the past 3 weeks (to the day) by the family that cared for him.
Molly was thrilled to see him again and they immediately ran out into the backyard to play and catch up. Last night, he layed beside me like nothing ever happened.
Many thanks to everyone that searched the internet and distrubuted flyers, visited shelters with me (Andrea) and checked in with me during this LONG process. Words cannot describe how thankful I am to all of you.
Today, things are feeling more “normal” and Ollie is busy dragging the laundry from my closet throughout the house. I guess he feels like the living room is cleaner than it should be. For now, I’m happy to pick up after him. I’ll scold him next week…
