BOLD Phoenix is hosting a BE BOLD Birth Fair this Labor Day, 2008. In conjunction with the birth fair we are showing two performances of Birth, a play by Karen Brody. This is a fundraiser for the Arizona Birth Network and the Arizona Association of Midwives, as well as an educational opportunity for our group to raise awareness and questions regarding our local birthing community and maternal care issues.

This is your chance to reach many families in the Phoenix area. Rent a booth at our Birth Fair and sell your products or pass out contact information. In a recent purchase and rental attempt i was very unhappy and disgruntled with little dealer/little prices on north countryclub dr.where we had made vacation plans to rent a tent trailer from them.we were told at the time of the reservation;which we made well over a month in advance;that we had to go to uhaul and have a hitch;with alot of attachement accesories;Most of which we did not need or was required by law;we were also told that we would have to in advance,have to have an electric brake installed by them;which was additional money that we had already spent;We told them exactly what type of vehicle,we had in advance;when we brought our van in on the previous week to our vacation to have the electric brake,that we did,nt want;they gave us a tour;a pretrip and instructions on how to set up the trailer;then they suddenly decided after wasting 90 min of our time;refused to install an electric brake on our 2007 Kia sedona.that we would have to go back to uhaul;on the following week to east mesa;(the week we were supposed to be on vacation.)And spend another 270.00,we were,nt planning on;just to rent a trailer.sum it up;we cancelled are rental and ended up doing the old fashioned tent thing with a brand new hitch on our van.we won,t be back.!!!!

Guess our national leaders didn't expect this, hmm? On Thursday, April 17, 2008 Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado , was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.

They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:

' Since the dawn of creation there has been both good and evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

'The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.

'In the days tha! t follo wed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent.

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.

Your laws ignore our deepest needs,
Your words are empty air.
You've stripped away our heritage,
You've outlawed simple prayer.
Now gunshots fill our classrooms,
And precious children die.
You seek for answers everywhere,
And ask the question 'Why?'
You regulate restrictive laws,
Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand,
That God is what we need!

' Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that! allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational
systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

'As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesi! tate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that onApril 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA -- I give to you a sincere challenge. Dare to examine your
own heart before casting the first stone!

My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!' !

Do what the media did not - - let the nation hear this man's speech.

Life is tough for GOOD people.

The key to happiness for anyone, regardless of age, race or religion, is good health. As long as you have good health, you have the freedom to live life as you choose and the ability to make plans and set goals for a better tomorrow. A strong body, resists illness and garners respect, a feeble body does not. This knowledge is one of the surest ways to make it past many superficial �gate keepers� who like to covertly discriminate. In terms of employment however, there are some very legitimate reasons for an employer to hire someone physically fit over someone who is not, such as personal health considerations.

Pick yourself up by your own boot straps. God helps those who help themselves. You will not find people to offer selfless help, altruism is rare. You will only find mockery and scammers and people who will help you only if there is something they value for compensation. Everyone has their own agenda. Reconcile the past within yourself, do not turn to psychiatrists or religion for help with your problems. Recognize those who have cheated you are the TRUE, WEAK victims, forgive and avoid them because you can change and they can not. Learn from the past but focus on the future.

Set goals for yourself. Your goals have to be a realistic reflection of your abilities and potential. Once you have determined what you want in life, go get it. COMPETE WITH YOURSELF TO ACCOMPLISH YOUR GOALS, do not compete with your peers over materialistic objectives. This will keep you out of debt, out of unhealthy relationships and independent of spirit killing wage-slave employment. Write down short and long term plans to accomplish your goals and take the action necessary to make daily tangible progress.

Keep your plans tucked away and private. Focus on them one step at a time with the knowledge each step is one step closer to your ultimate goal. This is a way to make yourself disciplined because without the ability to focus and implement your plan you will fail. Celebrate progress. I know focus is the toughest part, with all the negative influences that may be in your life. Shield yourself from the outside influences at all costs and �Just do it�. You only have one life and that�s just the way it is. ACTA NON VERBA is Latin for �action instead of talk�, make this your personal mantra. Life is a ticking clock with a beginning and an end, you cannot afford to waste anymore time!

You may discover the negative influences may be from those closest to you. Family, friends, church and employers, this may be where your plans start. Determine with objectivity, how and if you�ll be able to meet your goals with these people remaining in your life. Religious fundamentalism is wrong, practice religious tolerance instead. RECOGNIZE RELIGIOUS FUNDAMENTALISTS AS BEING A THREAT TO YOUR FREEDOM AND A THREAT TO THE FUTURE. If anyone pushes you to live by "their rules and teachings", they are only trying to dominate and conform you to their idea of spiritualism. It is NEGATIVITY from these people that is stoping you from your accomplishments. They may try to interfere in your family, or cause problems for you and a spouse. You may have to start by leaving to a new city, state or country in order to escape these negative influences. Do this as a last resort, or first step depending on your circumstances.

I'm sure many of you have been hearing lately or have personal experience ( as most of us do) with how much one household throws away food each day/ each week either because of items expiring according to the expiration label or simply because we know it won't be eaten. Its quite a bit of food for most households. I'm sure many of you have been shopping at the grocery store and have seen employees pulling items off the shelves to discard due to the items expiring in a few days or its the day such items are to expire according to label. The carts and baskets that are filled to the top with this grocery food is enormous!! So often when asking how much of this will go to feed the poor and hungry, I usually receive a response of " not too much" or "nothing will". When I have inquired as to why I have received one usual response for the most part and this has to do with all the laws that are in place which prevent the stores from supplying organizations or the poor and hungry with the items pulled from the shelves and therefore this is taken straight to the dumpsters! I have personally looked at so much of this food being pulled and can't see any reason many of the items can't be consumed after this expiration date up to a certain point. For example, the many loafs of bread and muffins being pulled look great and are soft to the touch and I would definitely consume them myself as there is nothing at all wrong with the product. Its because of these laws we have in place that have blown these expiration dates way out of proportion. There has to be some way we can provide the food waste from the grocery stores that they have pulled to the hungry or the poor as well as a way devised to provide to the organizations where people go to obtain food when they are struggling and hungry. I believe the food being thrown out ( which would entail some extra creative thinking) by households should also not be going into the dumpster. Perhaps a sub-division or even an individual block could put together something involving this. I would sure like to hear any input or suggestions anyone has about this subject matter as I would be most interested in giving my time, experience and knowledge to this cause. With so many people having a difficult time with the gas prices and rising food prices, I feel a lot of waste among households happens when buying in bulk since so much of this is wasted - at least for the majority. We should stop and re-think it when we decide we are going to go out and buy in bulk. By wasting less food - its a guarantee that food prices will level out if not go down. however, many people type so fast and refuse to correct their speech or grammar in computer writings, but speak clearly and correctly in person. Therefore, one can assume they are intelligent and educated if they know better and just don't make the changes when writing on a computer, but, if they write like an idiot because they do not know any better, then the guy has a point. But even with that said, what is the real meaning and truth behind what people are trying to say. If a moron figures out he is being conned and says something like "I ain't gonna be no fool, I'm not buying that because you be lying to me", well, in essence, he is making an intelligent decision, but he is still a moron. Its like life in general. We are surrounded by idiots through most of the day, but people still manage to make intelligent decisions when they need to. If we can teach people to reason and think, then they will make even more intelligent decisions, like voting for a candidate based on the fact that they are qualified and make sound, correct arguments and judgments. But what if they make intelligent sound arguments, but change their minds when it suits them, and are just really hot air? The truth is, neither McCain nor Obama are going to make this country any better in the long run unless they come up with intelligent, well thought out solutions to problems we face. Neither has done so, not will. They just figure out what their advisers tell them to say and when and how to say it, then hope that the majority of people vote for them based on what looks good.

I myself is b- and we did not know what blood type my husband was my first child was the same blood type as me so i did not need a second shot at birth but my second child i received a shot while i was 22 weeks and i started having problems with carrying him they need not think it was due to blood type turns out when i had him he was b+ and we both needed blood transfusion at his birth and we both were lucky to live and have no problems since that had happen even though i had the shots they told me never to have children again due to risk with my blood type not matching and shots not working,so PLEASE get the shot and if it is a money problem talk to your doctor about low cost shots this is very important to you and any child you have or want.

I think were are awfully close to a bottom in the real estate market here in the Phoenix area. Out on the edges of town where investors bought a lot of property, prices have fallen sharply, 50%+ and often more, but sales volume in some areas, like parts of Anthem, are at 2005 levels (in May 08)! Also, listingsupply.com shows that MLS listings in Phoenix were down in June and are starting to fall already in July. I think prices in the middle class areas will have to fall another few percent, but the glut should ultimately clear with these low prices.

Sure, targeting specific gas companies such as Mobile would greatly increase prices, however the real consideration is that the dollar price we pay for gas is never enough to pay for the real price we pay, in relation to polution and politics.

This has NEVER worked. It did nothing in May when first posted, and will do nothing now. It's a childlike solution to a real world problem.
(That's because it will take awhile to go into effect, dumb @$$. Of course nothing will happen overnight. It takes alot of people to make a huge difference. Hence the debate of whether we want to hurt our economy now to make a change for the future...or keep hurting ourselves by doing nothing)

See what I mean? Just not buying the gas is not enough, you MUST remove the market FOR the product. THAN it will go down in price. Don't forget, Gas is NOT the only needed item we use that comes from Oil. What about the engine oil, and all the bearing lubes, tranny fluids, etc, etc. PLastics? There is some hydrocarbon (petro based) involvment there too.
(Exactly, while oil exists...other products will be made from it or for it. I doubt its going away in the future and if it does, it will only be removed from cars to use as gas)

You want lower gas prices? By a car that runs on Hydrogen and doesn't USE gas. Honda makes a Hydrogen Car. Buy one of those and than drive PAST the gas stations.
This method would take oh, about, 20 years to have an effect. IN the meantime, enjoy the higher gas prices, that will continue to climb.
(Yeah, enjoy the high gas price like you and do nothing but complain about it. Or be a real person and make a difference because I doubt anyone will buy a Hydrogen car right now. So why don't you come up with something new smart guy? If not, then try to be optimistic about it and try to help out instead of bringing the idea down like the economy, loser.)

The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas.

But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the TWO biggest companies (which now are one)- EXXON/MOBIL.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to REDUCE their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon/Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!
Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

Every Summer, my little sister and I pass out water and food in the afternoons to the homeless in Central and North Phoenix. For the past few years, I have purchased all of the bottled water and food needed for our care packages. This year (along with all of you) money is tight with gas and food prices, but it doesn't change the fact that the homeless are still out there in the heat.
