You are invited to participate in a research study, conducted by a college student in the program Organizational Leadership and Development, exploring how leaders of small service-based businesses prepare for and make decisions about adopting artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The purpose of the study is to understand leadership readiness in small businesses with fewer than 50 employees, with the goal of identifying challenges and strategies that may inform future organizational practices.
Who Can Participate?
You may be eligible to participate if you are:
• An owner, founder, co-owner, president, CEO, managing partner, or senior executive who holds primary or shared authority over the operational and strategic decisions of the business.
• The business must operate primarily within a service industry, such as professional services, healthcare services, consulting, hospitality, financial services, information technology services, or personal services, rather than in manufacturing or goods production.
• The business must meet a defined small-business threshold of fewer than 50 full-time-equivalent employees.
• The business must be headquartered and operating within the United States.
• The participant must have held a leadership role with decision-making authority for at least 2 years and must lead a business that has adopted AI technologies into its operations or decision making within the past 2 years.
• The business must have experienced operational inefficiencies, slow or stagnant growth, or both during the period in which the leader pursued AI readiness.
• The participant must be sufficiently fluent in English to complete the interview and must be willing to be audio recorded.
What Will Participation Involve?
If you decide to participate, you will be asked to complete:
• One semi-structured interview conducted via Zoom.
• The interview will last approximately 45–60 minutes.
