Up for sale is my early 1978 SR500, which I believe may be one of the nicest SR’s in the country. 7000 original miles and gorgeous…it still has the freakin plastic cable keeper things from the factory in place. The wiring is also delightfully untouched and solid.
I purchased it a little over a year ago from a friend who had bought it in Oregon from the original owner back in the 90's and never did a thing with it. It was just sitting in the back of the garage since they moved it down here back in the early 00's.
I have reconditioned EVERYTHING on what was already a very nice original, low mile, two owner bike. All the rubber is new throughout; pegs, shifter, handlebar isolators, tires (D404's). Forks are freshly rebuilt and resealed, brakes are fresh and she's as tight as a drum. It has some great 'day two' type of mods from back in the day such as a K&N pod filter and a killer vintage supertrapp (sounds fantastic). I am not 100% certain, but the internals may also have been breathed on as it seems quite a bit punchier than other SR's I've ridden - however it starts in a kick or two every time and doesn't want to fight you at all. Petcock has been rebuilt, just had an oil change and valve job and I swapped the throttle for a motion pro and put some nice new grippers and bar ends on it. The seat has been reupholstered in a very attractive and better than stock material and style. The tank is sparkly clean inside and the paint is fresh in classic Yamaha "Macho Maroon". Looks killer and RIPS! People frequently ask if it’s the reissue model from 10 years ago…nope just that nice.
My intention was to keep this one, but I have my silly little eyeballs on another project, and I am the one-at-a-time type. I miiiiight be interested in a trade, but it would have to be something I can elbowgrease some equity into. The damn speedo needle broke on the way to its glamour shots this morning – ODO still works though so maybe an easy fix. I think I am leaving that for the next guy.
