For sale is a stunning EMS Synthi AKS from 1971 – a true icon of early European electronic music and one of the most sought-after portable analog synthesizers ever made.
This particular Synthi AKS belonged to Dutch pianist and electronic-music pioneer Polo de Haas, who was among the first in the Netherlands to experiment with analogue synthesizers in the 1970s. A beautiful piece of history, but also a fully working instrument that’s ready to play.
The unit has been fully overhauled and is in top condition. All functions work as they should and the synth is a joy to play – from classic sci-fi sound effects and noisy drones to surprisingly musical, sequenced patterns in the spirit of early Pink Floyd and Brian Eno.
The synth comes complete with:
Original Synthi suitcase (serial nr. 4814 KS)
KS keyboard / sequencer (identical serial nr.)
Power cable
Umbilical cord (KS–Synthi connection)
Two Presto Patch cartridges
Condition
Cosmetically the instrument looks fantastic, with virtually no signs of use. The only small flaw is a missing blue knob sticker on VCO 1 (see photo). Otherwise the panel and case are in beautiful shape and everything feels solid and well-cared-for.
