1963 Gibson Firebird 1 Reverse. Made in Kalamazoo Michigan. The Firebird was introduced in mid 63 and only 80 guitars were produced; making this is a rare bird for sure! This guitar was used for the reference photo in the American Guitars-an illustrated history, by author Tom Wheeler, and can be seen on page 176 in the book. The guitar is original with original case in good condition. All the latches work great and the handle is in good shape. The guitar has a head stock repair that was professionally repaired 40 years ago and is perfectly stable. The repair is barely noticeable with the Alpine White refinish, that has aged beautifully. It also has a replacement pick guard. Other than that and the refin, this guitar is totally original. It has a Rosewood fretboard that is incredibly thick, Kluson banjo tuners, and a single mini Humbucker with a beautiful punchy tone. This guitar is exceptional in every way and sounds amazing!
This is a players grade Reverse Firebird I and is priced accordingly. Comes with the American Guitars book by Tom Wheeler.
