I have created tire pairings based on personal testing and use on our dry hard pack and loose over hard technical terrain. These are pairings that I consider "smart", tried and true real world tested by a veteran biker. Sizing follows a staggered F/R volume practice. If that is not your practice, you can always size up the rear. The following commentary will help you decide if this pairing is right for you. This is in my top 5. A big volume, fast traction monster up front, and a smaller speed climber in the back.

Rear: Vittoria Agarro 2.6 Trail. Measures 2.5, 950g, blazing fast, round profile tire with decent (better than exo) puncture resistance for rear tire tasks. Use a foam inserts if you need more insurance. The fastest 950g climbing tire you will ever use. Faster rolling than most of the semi-slicks I have used. $69

Front: Vittoria Martello 2.6 TRAIL. Measures 2.65-2.75. 990g. BIG cornering knobs and sipes everywhere hallmark this traction beast, and does it without a big drag penalty. Gobbles up our rock gardens and makes you think your fork has 20mm more travel. Traction for anything you throw at it (except soft loam). Long lasting tread that the 4C with graphene is famous for. $79

The graphene 4G+ compound used in this line is hard (fast) and long lasting.
