Pirelli falls into the "More durable, with faster rolling characteristics" category. A rare find here, retailing from $84 to $118 plus tax. For the aggressive rider with tire woes, these are tougher than mainstream options.

In my experience as well as standardized testing on the durable end of the tire spectrum, these get constant highest marks for speed and grip combination while remaining puncture free. Riding on desert technical requires more protection than anything usually found at bike shops. Nobody hates trailside tire repair more than a tire tester. One indicator that these are different is that all of these tires will stand up and support their own weight freestanding, even the XC casings. I have not seen another 800g tire do this.
NOTE. An interesting difference with these tires is that they all have different single compound formulation, (and durometer). This is not advertised either, leaving the consumer to think that Pirelli uses one "Smartgrip" compound across the spectrum. They dont. A different approach than other manufacturers. Each has a custom formulation for its specific intended use, and they are all called Smartgrip. SIMPLE but confusing, and singly responsible for what proves to be a tire that doesnt experience torn knobs or lose its grip after it is half worn.
-The Enduro R tire (rear specific) with hardwall casing fixes rear pinch flat problems without creating an anchor. I find that a Trail casing up front is a good lighter tradeoff since the front tire is not subject to the same stresses.
-Trail (Prowall) H. H is for HARDPACK, Pirellis fastest tread and compound, a small block tread, most people will only use it on the rear, but can be used F-R for the fastest setup. 2.4 and 2.6
-Trail (Prowall) and Enduro (Hardwall) M. Pirellis most versatile tread designed for "MIXED" conditions. Popular up front with a Trail or Enduro R in the back. 2.4 and 2.6
-Trail (Prowall) and Enduro (Hardwall) R. A REAR specific tread that capitalizes on climbing and braking traction without excess rolling resistance. Can be used front and rear, but more common with M or S up front.
-Trail (Prowall) and Enduro (Hardwall) S. A tire suited for loose over hardpack as well as softer soils, the compound is a bit softer than the others, but still very tough. Can be used Front and rear, but commonly used on the front with the R or M in the back.
