Two Huge, Handmade African Ceremonial Masks. $125 Pair. 10" X 28" Very Good Condition.
I purchased the masks in the 1990s in Africa.
Characterized by a prominent, often geometric, facial structure, a high forehead, and a rectangular mouth. The masks in the image feature a split face design, with one side painted red and the other side white. Kifwebe masks are used in rituals and dances, often related to ancestor veneration, initiation rites, and social control. The colors hold symbolic meanings.
