‘91 Celica. Classic in well-preserved running condition, but needs some significant work. It was slightly leaking oil and Sun Devil Auto diagnosed both a bad rear seal and also radiator leak and freeze plugs leaking. It’s a second car, and it is now calling for someone with the wherewithal to do the work that this car needs done.
Interior in awesome condition; w/ zero cracks in dash (black tabs visible in photos are just the pieces of velcro to hold the custom-fit dashmat in place); zero tearing of seats (they look great), and only one area of a crack in the driver armrest part of the vinyl over the door panel (which i highlighted in a photo).
This is the now-more-scarce ST version with the significantly more fuel-efficient 1.6L engine (c.f., the Supra/GT’s 2.2L).
My aunt got upgrades from the standard package when they bought it; spoiler and factory ac, which still works GREAT! We have really good ac on our much newer cars, which but this is by far the coldest ac system i’ve ever used in a car. We have a kit to add freon if needed, that my dad had for an a different car that he sold; but this car’s ac has NEVER even needed to be topped up!
This is a rust-free, 1-family, Celica, that has almost exclusively lived in the Sonoran Desert since new (except for July to Oct, 2011, when it took me to my work internship in Wyoming).
1-family: My aunt bought it new; sold it to my uncle in 1997; he sold it to my dad in 1999; and i bought it in 2008.
Original paint, body trim and even original wiper arms (I hate the stupid plastic nonsense they make you replace when just the wiper blades need changing; so, NAPA had the right ones, so I bought a bunch and then hand painted the original metal wiper arms so they look great in matte black).
Do not have original outer wheel covers (or maybe it was the original rims that it didn’t have), but do have original hubcap inners that say “CELICA”, that i picked up at a junkyard. Many extra parts like entire backup sets of light lenses, volume knob, factory stereo, trunk struts, etc. Also kept original coils.
We have vast majority of all receipts back to the initial purchase, and here are brief highlights of non-routine work that has been done since i’ve owned it:
‘24-6, ~194k mi.: Sun Devil Auto pressure washed and diagnosed bad rear seal and radiator leak.
[After this, i stopped driving it and had a loose agreement to have the car fixed as part of a class hands-on experience for students at a college auto repair program; it was to happen by this fall, which was many months ahead and so I decided to let registration lapse since it was leaking whenever warmed up; but the curriculum need changed and it didn’t work out; so i decided to sell, and have continued to keep the car running every couple weeks like i have been since summer of last year. Stabil was added to preserve the gas and it still runs fine. Will get a video of a cold start when i can.]
‘20-9, Emissions-related repair, under ADEQ VVR program: SSC Auto in Chandler replaced oxygen sensor and air intake hose.
‘19-9, ~184k mi.: Apex Customs installed height-adjustable racing coilovers kit, which is from Maxpeedingrods.com. I had the car slightly raised which i feel is a little safer driving in the metro area. But it could be adjusted lower and i have the specialized wrench for this kit.
‘18-10, Emissions-related repair, under ADEQ VVR program: SSC Auto in Chandler replaced catalytic converter.
‘17-8, ~163k mi.: starter replaced, by Big 2 Toyota (dealer).
‘16-8, replaced rear motor mount (by Sun Devil Auto).
‘15-5, replaced air intake boot/duct, front cv axles, axle seals at transaxle, front brake rotors, wheel bearings & pads, brake calipers, and exhaust pipes (by Greg Fisher, independent mechanic in Tucson).
‘14-11, ~143,700 mi.: replaced throttle body, thermostat housing, and camshaft seals (by Greg Fisher, independent mechanic in Tucson).
‘13-5, ~142k mi.: replaced valve cover gasket and freeze plugs (by Greg Clark Automotive, Phx).
