I bought this set new from Williams Sinoma
The Shun Classic Ken Onion 8-piece chef block knife set was a limited-edition collection, manufactured in Japan.
It was used rarely and has never seen in a dishwasher. The bamboo block was used and shows wear, but it can be easily restored to as-new condition. The knives show some age patina, which I have not addressed. Individually these knives go for hundreds of dollars each. This is for Knife collectors only, as it's in its original, almost new packaging, which is very rare to find
Hard to find any complete sets for sale, let alone with the original packaging in as-new condition
If there are any for sale its extremely high price
This is from Grok:
The Shun Ken Onion series (designed by knife maker Ken Onion for Shun Cutlery) features high-end, limited-edition Japanese knives with VG-10 steel cores, Damascus cladding, and ergonomic ebony PakkaWood handles. The "8-piece chef block knife set" refers to a rare/complete set from this discontinued line, often including a wooden block and various knives (typically around 8 pieces like chef's knives, santoku, slicers, utility, paring, cleaver, etc.—one listing specifies models like DM-0500 8" Multi-Chef's, DM-0517 Santoku, DM-0509 Slicing, etc.).
This set appears to be discontinued and is no longer sold new at major retailers (such as Williams-Sonoma, Amazon, or KnifeCenter, where individual pieces or other Shun lines are available). It's mostly found in secondary markets such as eBay or specialty sites.
Current market value/resale value: Listings for a used/complete 8-piece Shun Ken Onion set (with block) range from around $5,000 (e.g., one active listing for a well-used but lifetime-usable set with free Shun sharpening service).
