#1 Buying by Brand Name.
Much like buying a car, certain manufacturers stand out in quality. Shopping by brand name takes out a lot of the guess work. All listed, USA or Import are built to the highest standards with quality materials.

#2 Ignore the Felt and Pockets (It's actually called cloth).
Focus on the frame. The slates not cracked, right? The wood is in good condition?
Cloth, cushions, and pockets are easily replaced.
Cloth Options:
Championship Invitational Billiard Cloth:
Refereed to as “standard” cloth. High quality, Teflon protection. Commonly used on home tables and some commercial establishments. For most, this is a great option.
West State Tournament Pro Cloth:
This Worsted cloth plays fast and is suitable for home or competitive use. Composed of worsted tournament grade cloth.
Championship Tour Edition 3030:
24oz weight worsted wool cloth. Durable. 70% wool, 30% Nylon. An excellent option.
Simonis 860:
The gold standard. Worsted wool cloth with a high thread count and reduced ball burning.
Cushions:
Cushions are easily replaced. Like cloth, there's several options. You'll likely need a K-55 or K-66 cushion. Standard cushions are suitable for most home and commercial tables. If you're a pro, we're happy to outfit your table with Atemis or Accu-Fast cushions.
Pockets:
Whether it's an antique Brunswick Balke Collender or a modern Connelly, we have a variety of classic fringe pockets, or modern leather shield pockets to choose from.
#3 Who Are You Buying From?
Buying a preowned table from a private seller, i.e., on Craigslist, FB Marketplace, etc... isn't the worst thing you can do. But be aware, there's around fifteen Billiards stores in Arizona. If there truly is a great deal out there, one of those stores has already sent their service team out to purchase and pick it up.
I'd recommend checking out and supporting our local retailers. You want a pool table, they want to sell you one. Give them an opportunity. Phoenix and the surrounding suburbs have a thriving, healthy Billiards scene. Stop by a retailer in your area before you buy something on Craigslist for $500.
#4 Who and What to Avoid.
Single slate pool tables and tables with a ball return system are more expensive to move and service. Nothing wrong with these tables, just expect to spend more on service.
Random individuals on OfferUp, Craigslist, and FB Marketplace posing as pool table movers. Are they insured? Not just insuring your table during the move, but potential damage to your home. What if someone drops a slate on your tile floor? What if someone injures themselves carrying slate in your home? Who did they apprentice under? Even now, we run into unexpected challenges.
Non professionals not only lack the necessary skill set, they often don't have the right tools to get the job done. They don't use a Starrett level. They'll use plaster from Home Depot instead of bee's wax. Etc.
#5 Hiring the Right Mechanics or Where to Buy.
