About 25 years ago I visited Hawaii - the big island - and while there purchased a board of Koa from the largest seller on the island. The board is 8/4 quarter sawn Koa, and measured 14'' wide X 8' long. I trimmed about two inches off each end, and cut the board in half, leaving two pieces 14'' X 46 1/2'' X 2''- about 18 board feet. When I returned to the mainland, I ran one piece through the sanding machine; it cleaned at one and 13/16''. It is, I hope you agree, a pretty piece of wood. The other piece I left rough; it does have a check about 12'' long, and 3'' from the edge. I am asking $500 cash but will consider other cash offers
