I can find nothing about the artist, "CKILE," who carved his name into this. He may have spent so much time on this piece that he did not want to start another.
It is about 6 5/8" at its longest. After looking at a lot of scrimshaw online I think I can say that the 3-dimensional effect achieved by CKILE is rare in a sea of one dimensional scrimshaw art.
As the photos clearly show it is slightly jagged at the opening. That is probably from the cutting. If it had been dropped it would have been more severely damaged.
