This is an antique American stoneware jug with a rich brown Albany slip glaze.
It features a beehive or ovoid shape with a single handle.
Stoneware jugs like this were commonly used for storing liquids such as whiskey, moonshine, vinegar, or molasses in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
This one recently came out of an old trunk in a barn.
It has NOT been completely cleaned, only rinsed off to remove the accumulated dust.
This jug has a couple small ships at the rim of the spout. (see photo)
I have 6 jugs and other bottles for sale. All are different styles and sizes and prices.
Serve your Holiday Spirits this year in a classic style Moonshine Jug.
I am located on 53rd Avenue about 4 blocks north of the Loop 101 in Glendale.
