Stoneware jugs like this one were commonly used for storing liquids such as whiskey or moonshine.
This one recently came out of an old trunk from a barn.
It has not been completely cleaned, only rinsed off to remove the accumulated dust.
The jug features a cream or tan-colored body and a dark brown, almost black, top glaze.
It has one chip on the spout (see photo)
