This is a vintage salt-glazed stoneware jug.
It features a dark olive or brown Albany slip glaze on the upper portion and handle, contrasting with a lighter, unglazed bottom section.
The glaze exhibits characteristic variations and drips, common in early 20th-century American stoneware.
Stoneware jugs like this were commonly used for storing liquids such as whiskey, moonshine, vinegar, or molasses in the early 20th century.
This one recently came out of an old trunk in a barn.
It has NOT been completely cleaned, only rinsed off to remove the accumulated dust.
I have 6 jugs and other bottles for sale. All are different styles and sizes and prices. (See photo)
