'Bunny Ears' Prickly Pear Cactus -- potted, rooted and ready for planting! Opuntia microdasys
This hardy full-sun xeriscape plant is an excellent addition to any landscaping project. It is native to all regions of the US Southwest and Mexico... Looks beautiful with other desert vegetation, flowers and cactus.
Also known as Angel’s wings or Polka-dot cactus, these cacti do not develop spines and instead form fuzzy whitish brown glochids that can easily come off from the pads. Do not be fooled by the "soft" appears of these fuzzy micro-thorns; when they stick you, they are painful and require a good eye and care to remove. Please be careful when planting (use extra thick gloves or metal tongs).
Once established, Bunny ear cacti bloom yellow flowers in the spring. Over time, the plant can grow up to 2 ft tall and as wide as 3 ft or more in diameter. Do not plant too close to a sidewalk.
