Thoroughbred Mare own daughter of Flatter — Bred to Air Pocket — $12,500.
Gorgeous, athletic, smart, sound Thoroughbred mare with an outstanding pedigree.
She is by Flatter, the highly successful Claiborne Farm stallion by A.P. Indy. Flatter became a globally recognized sire known for producing top-quality racehorses and performance-minded athletes. He sired more than 60 stakes winners, including Grade 1 winners such as Taiba, Juju’s Map, Flat Out, and Taris. His A.P. Indy blood is highly respected not only in racing pedigrees, but also for athletic performance prospects.
This mare is an ex-race mare, so she is very well broke and has already seen a lot of life. She loads and hauls like a champ, clips, bathes, stands good for the farrier, is broke to ride with other horses, is used to a horse walker, and has a calm, sensible mind.
She has been a broodmare for about a year and a half, but she would love to get back to having a job.
This mare has the build and early speed of a quarter horse and would make a tremendous barrel horse prospect. She has the athletic ability, brains, bone, and try that are hard to find. I trained a former World Champion barrel horse, and if I were looking for a prospect today, I would be excited to find one this talented.
She is currently bred to Air Pocket.
Air Pocket was purchased as a foal for $200,000, was Breeders’ Cup nominated, and won several races. He fractured a leg as a 3-year-old, had surgery to repair it, returned as a 4-year-old, and won his first race back by 6 1/2 lengths, running a SI 101.
Air Pocket is an OWN SON of Smart Strike, who is the grandsire of three Kentucky Derby winners. Air Pocket is out of a MULTIPLE stakes-winning mare of $246,550 by Storm Cat. The coming foal from Benson will be a grand and greatgrand offspring of Smart Strike just like Rich Strike who won the Kentucky Derby PLUS the APIndy, Meadowlake and Storm Cat thrown in. If the resulting foal is a male, what a nice stallion prospect you could raise him to be.
This is a very nice mare with quality, pedigree, training, and real future potential — ride her, breed her, or do both.
