Songs from the 60s/70s/80s (LOTS of 80s)/90s/a little newer stuff too.
This is an unusual opportunity, if either of these applies to you:
1. You're an adult who took up keyboard or fiddle within the past few years or so, and you'd like to practice with other band members in the same situation.
2. You've played lots of gigs for years and you don't want the pressure of gigging anymore, but you'd like to just jam for fun.
I've been taking singing lessons for over three years, and I started this practice band last year to develop my band skills. We already have a drummer, a bassist, and two guitarists. We'd like to add a keyboard player and a fiddler!
We're looking for a keyboardist and a fiddler who took up playing music as an adult, who would like to build your band skills by practicing with us. One of my main goals for this band practice is to learn to synchronize my singing with a live band. Our practices are fun, and we're becoming better amateur musicians each time we rehearse together.
We do COUNTRY and ROCK songs, with some favorite songs from every decade all the way from the 1960s to the present, including lots of 1980s songs!
We haven't done gigs and aren't yet at a skill level to do so. At this time, we're just looking for people to practice with, so we can improve our band skills and have fun jamming. If you've already done lots of gigs, your skill level is way ahead of ours, and you would need to be patient with us as we develop our band skills.
I'm female, in my 50s, nonsmoker, no drugs.
We practice twice a month on weeknights at a studio with a full backline, in Glendale. Each practice is two hours, and we share the studio rental cost evenly among us. With four of us, that would be $15 per person for each two-hour practice session. Or $12 per person, with five of us, or $10 per person, with six of us.
You don't have to memorize anything. It's fine to bring your music app on your phone, tablet, or laptop, or you can print chord sheets and bring those. The gap between our practices is usually around two or sometimes three weeks. At each practice, we do around four songs that are new to us as a band, and at least four songs we've already done together as a band. The first time you join us, all the songs might be new to you. (If necessary, you could just do some of the songs for your first practice.)
Then starting with the second time you join us, we're looking for a minimum skill level that you can somehow get through all (or at least most) of the songs for each practice, even if you have to stumble through some of them. We're not looking for perfection here, but just to give each song an effort and be able to play through it, even with mistakes. If you don't have time to learn them all, during the practice you can still read them off your app or chord sheet to get through them with us.
We're looking for people who will be RELIABLE about showing up for the practices.
To start with, you would join us for one session so we can see if it's a good fit for all of us.
We're looking for someone who:
--Likes country music
--Likes rock music
--Is OK with playing songs from every decade from the 1960s through the present (We have lots of 80s songs, some 60s, 70s, 90s, and a few really good songs that are more recent)
--Is OK with changing keys on songs where needed for singer's vocal range
--Will actually show up!!!
